Environmentally-friendly carpet made from plastic bottles

Wednesday, 27 June 2012 11:18 AM

A new carpet on the market is made from used plastic bottles giving it an excellent green rating and making it an interesting new material.
If you are undergoing refurbishment in your home and are trying to keep your impact on the environment to a minimum this recycled carpet is definitely worth a look.
There are many exciting new carpet fibres on the market but this one comes from Mohawk.

Called the EverStrand fibre it is both high-performance and uniquely sustainable.
When it first came to the market it was in limited supply but now the carpet is available in the popular Paint Box collection of colourful carpets giving it a new commercial market.
The fibre is created entirely from used plastic drinks bottles with the production recycling more than three billion plastic bottles per year.
But don’t worry you cannot feel the plastic as the carpet is soft underfoot.
Carpets containing EverStrand are ideal for environmentally conscious homeowners as well as those looking for a different level of comfort.
Like other materials this fibre is stain resistance, durable and long-lasting according to the company.

For more information about this type of carpet visit the Mohawk website.
