Website aims to separate genuine from rogue builders

Making an informed decision about the most suitable builders to carry out home improvements is a tough enough decision without having to worry about potential rogue traders.

Each year British homeowners are left with extra bills totalling in the millions thanks to the corner cutting and shoddy craftsmanship of cowboy builders.

Distinguishing genuine from rogue tradesman has always been difficult, but now a new independent website aims to enable homeowners to do just that.

Checktrade.com encourages homeowners to vet and rate the work of tradesmen by providing feedback on the quality of the job they have provided.

This information is then stored on the Checktrade database which can be accessed by customers online or by requesting a text message update about a specific tradesman.

As well as providing a handy and trustworthy way of gauging the veracity of trade service providers, Checktrade also encourages workmen to build up a reputation for themselves through their performance.
