DIY styling the perfect party kitchen

Wednesday, 2 May 2012 4:00 PM

People who like to socialise and entertain should design their kitchen to be functional for this purpose.

But the kitchen also needs to look good and have a fun party vibe for when guests are over.

For some inspiration take a look at the party kitchen designed by interiors guru Anna Ryder Richardson.

Anna has named this the Mojito Party look for friends who want to get together and chat while sipping a cocktail or two.

She has based the design around the Savannah kitchen from Magnet.

“I’ve styled the Savannah with Aubergine Gloss Worktops to create a focal point, as they provide a wonderful contrast to the Chalk Blush walls,” she said.

“This year is all about making a statement, mixing warm, earthy tones with sparks of bright colours, and the aubergine worktop demonstrates this perfectly.”

Accessories are an important inclusion to a kitchen design but are often forgotten by homeowners when planning the décor.

Anna has tried to use the colour palette from the bench tops when choosing the accessories for this kitchen.

“I’ve mirrored the aubergine in various accessories, including the carefully placed bowl to keep the colour theme consistent,” she said.

“The kitchen has really been brought to life with vibrant green accents from the on-trend toaster through to the stainless steel teapot.”
Make sure when you are deciding on a design that you take into account the extra small touches and finishes that can be the difference between a high-end look and a DIY disaster.

“To add one last touch of elegance to this stylish kitchen, an acrylic white strip has been introduced to the chunky bar handles,” she said.
