Decking made easy

Want to improve an outdoor space? DIY experts Black & Decker to produce a step by step guide for building garden decking using the new Black & Decker High Performance range of power tools, with the help of This Morning's Ben Hillman.

Their latest power tool range includes a compact Cordless 10.8v Drill Driver, Impact Driver and Reciprocating Saw, all with Lithium Ion technology

Ben explains: “To get started you’ll need to establish the size and placement of the decking. Begin by creating the outer frame of the decking and joists using the Black & Decker High Performance 10.8v Cordless Drill Driver and secure with decking screws."

Set in place the posts to support the frame that you have built. Cut these roughly to length by hand and position as appropriate.

Once the cut ends have been treated with wood preserver and fixed in position the frame can be screwed to the posts using two decking screws per post. Ben recommends using the High Performance 10.8v Cordless Impact Driver to do this.

Then cut the upright posts down so that they are flush with the framework (with the High Performance 10.8v Cordless Reciprocating Saw if possible).

You can start securing the decking boards in position and trim down any overhanging boards.

The Black & Decker range starts from £129.99, available from B&Q.
